Ferrari has stunned everyone by unveiling the 12Cilindri Manuale, a limited-production V12 grand tourer that reintroduces the gated manual driving experience, albeit in a thoroughly modern, electronically mediated form. Positioned as one of Maranello’s most ambitious “driver-first” experiments in recent years, the model delivers analogue theatre with new-age tech control systems, while retaining the brand’s full performance potential. Only 1,499 units will be produced through Ferrari’s bespoke Tailor Made programme, with pricing starting at approximately Rs 6.4 Cr.
At the heart of the 12Cilindri Manuale is what Ferrari calls the “Manuale By-Wire” system, a conceptual bridge between classic mechanical engagement and modern dual-clutch efficiency. While the car retains a sophisticated 8-speed dual-clutch transmission underneath, the driver interface has been completely transformed.

Gone are the steering-wheel paddles and now front and centre sits a beautifully machined aluminium gated shifter paired with a physical clutch pedal, designed to recreate the ritual and rhythm of traditional manual driving.
However, this is not a purely mechanical gearbox. Instead, sensors interpret the driver’s inputs from the gear lever and clutch pedal, translating them into instantaneous digital commands for the transmission. Ferrari has gone to great lengths to simulate authenticity, engineering resistance, notchiness, and engagement loads into the system so that every shift feels physically meaningful.
The result is a driving experience that demands skill and timing. Miss a shift or mishandle a launch, and the car responds accordingly—jerks, hesitation, or even a full stall are part of the intended character. Classic techniques like heel-and-toe downshifting remain fully supported, reinforcing the car’s focus on driver involvement rather than automation.
Despite its nostalgic interface, the 12Cilindri Manuale makes no concessions in performance. Thanks to its DCT-based architecture, Ferrari has avoided the torque limitations typically associated with traditional manual gearboxes, allowing the naturally aspirated V12 to operate at its full potential.
At its core lies a 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine producing approximately 819 bhp, revving freely to an extraordinary 9,500 rpm. Peak torque of 69.13 kgm arrives high in the rev range, emphasising the engine’s race-bred character.
Performance figures reflect its dual personality: brutal when pushed, yet refined when cruising. The car accelerates from 0–100 kph in just 2.9 seconds and is capable of exceeding 340 kph, all while maintaining the mechanical drama that defines Ferrari’s flagship engines.
For everyday usability, drivers can switch to a fully automatic “D” mode via a centre console button, allowing the car to seamlessly take over shifting duties across all eight gears in traffic or relaxed driving conditions.
Visually, the 12Cilindri Manuale carries subtle but meaningful distinctions from the standard model. Laser-etched fender badges and finely executed pinstriping across the splitter and active rear aero elements pay homage to Ferrari’s heritage, particularly echoing cues from the legendary Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona.
Buyers are offered an extensive Tailor Made palette of 25 bespoke exterior finishes, including heritage-inspired colours such as Rosso Rubino. An optional racing livery further amplifies the car’s connection to Ferrari’s motorsport lineage, reinforcing its position as both a technological statement and a nostalgic tribute.
With the 12Cilindri Manuale, Ferrari S.p.A. is not simply reviving the manual gearbox—it is reinterpreting it for a new era. By combining electronic precision with tactile engagement, the brand has created a driving experience that sits between analogue purity and digital performance engineering.
I have recently driven the 12Cilindri, and I’m personally quite curious how this Manuale version will feel in the real world. On paper, the idea of a gated shifter layered over a modern dual-clutch system sounds like a fascinating blend of old-school engagement and modern precision, but the true character will only reveal itself in everyday driving conditions—especially in traffic and on open roads where rhythm and timing really matter.
