Priced at Rs 7.44 lakh onwards, the next-generation Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has been launched. It’s based on the 5th generation Heartect platform, is slightly bigger than before, and like the Ciaz, comes with an all-new petrol engine.
Since the original MPV’s launch in 2012, Maruti Suzuki has managed to sell almost 4.2 lakh units of the same. But the new one clearly has better chances, given not only it’s better equipped, too. Dual airbags, high-strength steel structure, ISOFIX child seat mounting points, ABS, etc. are standard. The cup holders are air-cooled, each row of seats has bottle holders and accessory socket, and third row comes with a 50:50 split function. The boot capacity is 209 litres, but fold the seats down and that can be extended to 803 litres. There are five colours to choose from including the new Pearl Metallic Auburn Red.
The engine choices include a new 1.5-litre petrol engine with Smart Hybrid tech and a 1.3-litre diesel unit. The former is 13 per cent more powerful than before and produces 6 per cent more torque. The petrol engine makes 77 kw@6000 rpm and 138 Nm@4400 rpm. The diesel engine, on the other hand, makes 66 kw@4000 rpm and 200 Nm@1750 rpm. The Smart Hybrid, like on the Ciaz, comes with features like idle stop-start, brake energy regeneration, and torque assist.
MD and CEO for Maruti Suzuki, Kenichi Ayukawa said, “We are delighted to offer, yet again, a vehicle that re-defines style, space, safety and comfort. The next gen Ertiga has been designed with thoughtful features and great attention to detail, keeping in mind the requirements of our ever evolving customers. The latest avatar successfully combines the revolutionary technology and premiumness that Maruti Suzuki promises to its customers.”
