The MV Agusta Superveloce has been lusted after ever since it was introduced to the world as a concept in 2018. Now, the Italian marque has revealed the Superveloce 98 Edizione Limitata — a homage to the first-ever motorcycle created by the brand.
A Brief History Lesson On The MV 98
The MV 98 was created before Meccanica Verghera Agusta was registered. Initially called the Costruzioni Aeronautiche Giovanni Agusta S.A. aircraft company, it was handed over to Domenico Agusta after his father, Giovanni Agusta passed away who planned on starting motorcycle manufacturing.
In 1943, the MV 98 was born — a 98cc single-cylinder two-stroke engine with a two-speed transmission. A few weeks into production, the factory was taken over during the Second World War. But two years later, the MV 98 went on sale.
MV Agusta Superveloce 98 Edizione Limitata: The Timepiece
The MV Agusta Superveloce 98 Edizione Limitata comes draped in the same rich burgundy ‘Rosso Verghera’ colour as the MV 98. Interestingly, the Superveloce’s paint is applied by hand, and finished with a gloss layer. Silver stripes run on either side of the fairing, with special ’98 Edizione Limitata’ logos on the tail section. And that’s where the similarities end.
While the 98 topped out at 65 kph, its 798cc inline-triple-flaunting heir’s 147 bhp is capable of doing thrice that. The Superveloce 98 is based on the ‘S’ variant of the bike, featuring hardware like Brembo Stylema brakes, TFT display and a comprehensive electronic suite. Making things even more alluring is the optional racing kit that comes with a pillion seat cowl, racing ECU and an Arrow exhaust.
No pricing announcements have been made yet, but with just 300 examples to be ever produced, it won’t take long for the Superveloce 98 Edizione Limitata to go off the shelf.
