Earlier this year, the Tata Nexon sub-compact SUV proved its safety prowess in Global NCAP’s crash test. It received a respectable four stars. Following that Tata Motors made a few improvements on the Nexon — like the inclusion of seat belt reminder for both driver and passenger. As a result of which the Nexon has now become the first car that’s made and sold in India to boast a five-star rating by Global NCAP.

The result is valid for all Nexon models produced after December 7, 2018. It scores 16.06/17 in the adult occupant safety test. Tata mentions that the figure is highest ‘amongst all the models tested across the Indian market’. This helps the Nexon achieve a five-star rating for adult protection and three stars for child occupant safety.

Tata Motors’s President for Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Mayank Pareek said, “The Indian car-buyers are increasingly rating safety as one of the topmost parameters while making a car purchase. We are elated to receive the highest ever safety rating from Global NCAP, for the Nexon. The Global NCAP results are a reflection of our commitment towards keeping Safety as the first priority. With these test results, the Nexon becomes the first car in the country to achieve a full 5-star adult safety rating and emerges as India’s Safest Car, in terms of crash safety”.

Global NCAP’s Secretary General, David Ward said, “This is a huge landmark for car safety in India. Congratulations to Tata Motors for achieving India’s first five star rating for adult occupant protection. Congratulations also to Mahindra for their first four star result. The Nexon was engineered in India and this shows the huge capability of the domestic industry to achieve excellence in safety design and performance. With the Nexon, Tata have shown the global car industry that to achieve five stars you can ‘Make in India’. Global NCAP is looking forward to many more Indian five star cars and further improvements in both pedestrian protection and crash avoidance.”
