JSW MG Motor India has taken the wraps off the Hector Tomahawk, and this time the Hector nameplate is bringing considerably more to the table than another facelift. The new SUV is the first MG model built on the company’s ADAPT platform, which JSW MG calls India’s first Multi-New Energy Vehicle platform. More importantly, it will be offered with both fully electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains, giving buyers two very different ways of going electric.
The Hector Tomahawk EV starts at ₹19.49 lakh, while the PHEV starts at ₹25.69 lakh, both ex-showroom. For a limited number of bookings, MG is also offering a Battery-as-a-Service option, with the EV priced from ₹13.99 lakh plus ₹4.90 per km and the PHEV from ₹21.79 lakh plus ₹3.20 per km in battery rental.
The EV will be available in five- and seven-seat configurations, while the PHEV will be offered exclusively as a seven-seater.
Big, bold and properly spacious
The Hector Tomahawk is a sizeable SUV, measuring 4,745 mm long, 2,130 mm wide and 1,770 mm tall, with a 2,810 mm wheelbase. MG claims it is the tallest and among the longest vehicles in its segment, while the battery offers 230 mm of ground clearance.
The design gets a futuristic treatment, with sculpted bumpers, signature Beacon Lights, an illuminated MG logo and distinctive Rotor alloy wheels. There is also an automatic power tailgate, because apparently even opening a boot has become too much work for us now.
Inside, MG has gone for a premium, technology-heavy approach. The cabin gets an Brown and Black theme, leatherette upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and powered front seats. The driver gets a six-way electrically adjustable seat with memory and auto-retract functionality, while the co-driver gets four-way powered adjustment.
The five-seat version offers up to 610 litres of boot space, while the seven-seat model gains additional flexibility when the second and third rows are folded. The second row gets a 60:40 split, along with recline, slide and tip-and-tumble functionality.
The screen is enormous
Taking centre stage inside is a 15.6 inch HD display, claimed to be the largest in its segment. It is paired with an 8.8-inch multi-information display and a 10-speaker Infinity audio system.
A dual-pane panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, 256 colour ambient lighting, rear window sunshades and PM 2.5 air filtration add to the comfort package.
MG’s i-SMART 3.0 connected-car system brings more than 80 connected features, while the SUV introduces two-finger, three-finger and five-finger gesture controls through its i-SWIPE system.
There is also a GenAI-powered voice assistant capable of understanding more than 30 Hinglish commands. If that wasn’t enough technology for one car, MG has added a Starmaanch Karaoke app with more than 8,000 tracks. Your road trip can therefore become a concert. Your passengers may not thank you for it.
EV offers 517km, PHEV goes beyond 1,100km
The Hector Tomahawk EV uses a 69.2 kWh battery paired with a permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 201 bhp and 310 Nm. MG claims a range of 517 km on a single charge, while DC fast charging is supported at up to 90kW.
The more interesting addition, however, is the Hector Tomahawk PHEV, which combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine, a dedicated hybrid transmission and a 20.5 kWh battery. The electric motor produces 198 bhp, while the SUV offers more than 115 km of pure-electric range.
MG claims a combined driving range of more than 1,100 km with a full tank and full charge. The PHEV also gets four operating modes: Pure Electric, Series Hybrid, Parallel Hybrid and Engine Direct Drive.
India’s first V2H system
One of the Tomahawk’s more interesting features is Vehicle-to-Home capability. The SUV can effectively act as a mobile energy source, allowing owners to power household appliances and other equipment using energy stored in the vehicle’s battery.
Both powertrains also come with a lifetime battery warranty for the first owner, giving MG considerable confidence in its electrification technology.
Safety equipment includes six airbags, ESP, traction control, hill-hold control, ABS with EBD, TPMS, ISOFIX mounts and all-wheel disc brakes. A 360-degree HD camera with wheel view and Level 2 ADAS are also part of the package.
Prices and deliveries
The Hector Tomahawk EV is available from ₹ 19.49 lakh, while the PHEV starts at ₹ 25.69 lakh, ex-showroom.
The BaaS introductory prices start at ₹13.99 lakh for the EV and ₹21.79 lakh for the PHEV, with the respective per-kilometre battery rental charges applying.
Bookings are now open across MG dealerships and the company’s website. EV deliveries begin in September 2026, while PHEV test drives and deliveries are scheduled to start in November 2026.
With two electrified powertrains, seven seats, a 517km EV range, more than 1,100km of claimed PHEV range and enough technology to make a smartphone feel slightly inadequate, the Hector Tomahawk is certainly not a quiet evolution of the Hector. It is MG making a rather loud statement about where it thinks the Indian family SUV is headed.
