Tata Motors has just launched the much anticipated Punch EV for the Indian market. The Punch EV isn’t just an electric car with battery packs slapped on its ICE-version, rather it’s built on a whole new electric-only platform, that Tata calls acti.ev.

The Punch EV is offered with two options for the motor – a 60 kW motor that produces 11.6 kgm of torque and a 90 kW motor that produces 19.4 kgm of torque. There are two battery pack options on the offering as well – a 25 kWh battery pack with an MIDC range of 315 km and a bigger 35 kWh battery pack with a handsome MIDC range of 421 km.

There are 5 variants on offer, namely Smart, Smart+, Adventure, Empowered and Empowered+, with the last three variants having an option of a long-range model as well.

In terms of safety, the Punch EV offers 6 airbags as standard, along with ESP functionalities such as hill hold control and roll-over mitigation. The Punch EV also gets blind-spot view monitors and ISOFIX mounts.

Tata hasn’t been shy in loading the Punch EV with new-age features as well. The Punch EV gets a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, an air purifier and not one, but four voice assistants – Hey Tata, Alexa, Siri and Google Assistant.

The Punch EV boasts of improved handling and driving dynamics, improved stability, and a usable 14-litre frunk, in addition to 366 litres of boot space. It also gets the fancy 90-degree opening doors. The Punch EV sits on 16-inch wheels and has a ground clearance of 190 mm.

In order to build trust and confidence in EVs, Tata is offering an 8-year or 1,60,000 km warranty on the Punch‘s battery and motor. Tata also claims a 10% to 80% charging time of 56 minutes using a 50 kW DC fast charger.

Prices for the Punch EV start at ₹10.99 lakhs (ex-showroom), going upto ₹14.49 lakhs (ex-showroom) for the empowered+ long-range variant. Deliveries to begin from 22nd January. Stay tuned for our review of the Punch EV!
