Remember Skoda’s naming competition for its upcoming sub-4-metre SUV? Well, the competition has concluded with the announcement of Kylaq! This new addition to Skoda’s India 2.0 programme is set to make waves in the sub-4-metre SUV segment when it launches in March 2025 and take on the likes of the Kia Sonet, Volkswagen Taigun, and other SUVs in the Rs 15 lakh category.

Technically, the Kylaq will be based on Volkswagen’s MQB platform and is expected to feature a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine delivering 113 bhp and 18 kgm of torque, with both a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic transmission.

Concept images on Skoda’s official website suggest that the Kylaq will feature Skoda’s new ‘Modern Solids’ design language, including split headlamps and LED daytime running lights. The interior is likely to resemble that of the Kushaq, potentially with additional features such as a 360-degree camera and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

The Kylaq’s name is inspired by Mount Kailash and the Sanskrit word for crystal. The winner of the naming contest will receive the first Kylaq produced by Skoda. The competition saw over 200,000 entries, and the winner will not only get the first Kylaq but also enjoy a tour of Skoda’s headquarters in Prague.
