BMW has just revealed the new-gen X1 along with the all-electric iX1. The third-generation X1 now gets a more spacious interior and an all-electric driving system.
On the design front, both the X1 and the iX1 are very similar. Both get a large front grille flanked on either side by headlights with integrated LED DRLs and turn indicators. The X1 also has a sloping roofline, new alloy wheel designs and LED taillights.
The ride height on the X1 has decreased by 0.6 inches with the help of adaptive dampers. Buyers also get to choose between 18, 19 and 20-inch wheels. It can also be opted for with the M Sport package with aggressive-looking external changes and distinct interior trim.
The all-electric BMW iX1 is powered by a 64.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The dual electric motors produce 264 bhp, with a 39 bhp boost available under high load. The iX1 has a WLTP-certified range of 438 km per charge. It can be charged from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in just 29 minutes with the 130 kW DC fast charger.
The 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine and the 2.0-litre diesel engine will be coupled to a 48V electric motor integrated into the 7-speed Steptronic transmission to help boost both efficiency and power delivery.
The X1 range gets a new 10.7-inch curved screen with a touch function, similar to that seen in the updated 3-series, and a 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Navigation, a powered tailgate, and various driver-assistance systems are also included as standard.
The X1 range is expected to be brought to the Indian market once it is launched globally.
