MINI India has introduced a new limited-run version of its open-top hatchback with the launch of the Convertible Stardust Edition. Priced at ₹ 62.90 lakh (ex-showroom), the special edition will be brought to India as a completely built-up unit and can be booked exclusively through the MINI India website, with deliveries commencing immediately. The Stardust Edition focuses on exclusivity through bespoke styling, premium features and MINI’s signature open-air driving experience.
Unlike a conventional cosmetic update, the Stardust Edition draws inspiration from the colours of the evening sky. It is finished exclusively in Sparkling Copper Grey, complemented by champagne-inspired detailing that sets it apart from the standard Convertible. Vibrant Silver mirror caps and 18-inch JCW Rallye Spoke alloy wheels further enhance the appearance, while the familiar round LED headlamps now feature three selectable lighting signatures along with welcome and farewell animations that project the MINI logo onto the ground.
One of the highlights remains the electrically operated MINI Yours soft-top roof, complete with the iconic Union Jack woven into the fabric as a nod to the brand’s British roots. The roof opens fully in just 18 seconds at speeds of up to 30 kph and closes in 15 seconds. It can also be partially opened by up to 40 centimetres, effectively functioning as a sunroof without having to lower the entire roof. Boot space stands at 160 litres with the roof folded and increases to 215 litres when it is closed.
Inside, MINI has retained its clean, retro-inspired layout while introducing the latest generation of technology. Dominating the dashboard is a circular OLED display that doubles up as both the instrument cluster and infotainment screen. Running MINI Operating System 9, the interface supports voice commands through the ‘Hey MINI’ Intelligent Personal Assistant and includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a head-up display, Harman Kardon surround sound system, remote software updates and Digital Key Plus, allowing owners to use their smartphone as the vehicle key.
The cabin also benefits from MINI Experience Modes, which alter the vehicle’s lighting, graphics and sound to suit different driving moods. Drivers can switch between settings such as Go-Kart Mode, Green Mode and Vivid Mode using the distinctive toggle bar, which also houses controls for the start-stop function, transmission, parking brake and audio volume. Black Vescin upholstery made from recycled materials, electrically adjustable sports seats and an Active Seat for the driver complete the premium interior.
Power comes from a 2.0-litre MINI TwinPower Turbo petrol engine producing 204 bhp and 300 Nm of torque. Paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch Steptronic Sport automatic transmission, the Convertible sprints from 0 to 100 kph in 6.9 seconds before reaching a top speed of 240 kph. Alongside its performance, MINI has also equipped the car with MINIMALISM technologies such as brake energy recuperation, active cooling air ducts and an automatic start-stop system to improve efficiency.
The Convertible Stardust Edition also packs a comprehensive list of driver assistance and safety features. Cruise Control, Parking Assistant and Comfort Access come as standard, while safety equipment includes six airbags, ABS, Dynamic Stability Control, Cornering Brake Control, a reversing camera and a tyre pressure monitoring system. Buyers also receive a two-year unlimited kilometre warranty, two years of roadside assistance and the option to extend both service and warranty packages for longer ownership.
The MINI Convertible has always been a niche proposition in India, appealing more to lifestyle buyers than outright enthusiasts. With its exclusive colour scheme, limited availability and generous equipment list, the Stardust Edition builds on that formula by adding an extra layer of individuality. For those who believe driving is as much about the journey as it is about standing out once you arrive, this latest special edition certainly fits the bill.
