Honda’s new CB350RS makes its entry into the CB family. It is based on the H’ness CB350, which was launched last year. Although based on the latter, the CB350RS differs in its design. It is a sportier offering by Honda, with a hint of scrambler design added to the mix.
Powering the CB350RS is a 350cc, four-stroke OHC, single-cylinder engine producing 20.7 bhp@5500 rpm and 3 kgm of torque@3000 rpm, paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Yes, it gets similar power, but it is also 2 kg lighter than the CB350, weighing in at 179 kg. Also, the ground clearance has been marginally increased from 166 mm to 168 mm.
Sharing the same chassis as the H’ness, the CB350RS gets similar cycle parts, but with a few changes. For instance, at the front, it gets a 100/90-19 section tyre, while the rear is a chunky 150/70-17 section tyre. Braking duties are handled by a 310 mm disc up front and a 250 mm disc at the rear with calipers by Nissin. It also comes equipped with dual-channel ABS as standard and Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC). Other hardware on the motorcycle includes telescopic forks at the front and nitrogen-charged shock-absorbers for the rear suspension.
Barring all the ergonomic changes, there are a few cosmetic additions as well. It gets LED lighting all around, a new underseat LED taillight, new front and rear fenders, fork boots, sporty grab rails, upswept exhaust, a tuck and roll seat design, and skid plate. Of course, you do get the advanced digital-analogue meter which reads out real-time mileage, battery voltage and switchable traction control, among other things.
Honda will be offering the CB350RS in one variant in two colour schemes: Radiant Red Metallic and Black with Pearl Sports Yellow. Honda’s also slowly looking to expand its Big Wing dealerships in India. If the H’ness is too much chrome for your liking then the CB350RS is a good alternative. Retailing at Rs 1.96 lakh, ex-showroom, India, it is only Rs 3,000 more than the H’ness CB350 DLX Pro variant. Do stay tuned for a detailed review of the CB350RS!
