What is it?
The Striker is the most affordable offering from KYT India, and is positioned in what is probably the most sought-after range of helmets.
Is it any good?
One look at the Striker and you’ll be hard-pressed to tell that this is an entry-level helmet. Everything from its design and the paint quality to how well-balanced it feels in the hand and the ventilation on offer is top-notch. Since this is purely an ISI-certified helmet, and doesn’t have a DOT/ECE certification, it is not recommended or even meant for track outings. As something designed for everyday use, this KYT scores high in ventilation, thanks to its six air intakes at the front and two exhaust vents at the rear. Even the visor mechanism feels so solid that you can keep the visor partially open if you want more air and it won’t shut at high speeds or with heavy acceleration. The field of vision is phenomenal, and after having tried it with a variety of two-wheelers, never did it feel like the view was restricted or limited.
A big concern initially was the fit. While it was the perfect size and fit snug around the cheeks and forehead, the ears would hurt, making it unbearable to wear it even for an hour at a stretch. This was solved by removing the covers meant for installing the earphones for communication devices. The comfort after that was a pleasant surprise. Right from the quality of the liner to the noise level was something that some of the competitors don’t offer. And despite being an entry-level helmet, KYT hasn’t skimped on features like pinlock-ready visor, double d-ring fastener and even emergency quick release system for the cheek pads.
How much?
The Striker costs ₹5750 for solid colours and ₹200 more if you want one with graphics. And the only thing that might be a little concerning is the certification. However, the Striker is not just made for India, but is also exported to other Asian countries and is certified as per the local safety standards.
