More from Motoring

BMW Motorrad has never shied away from bringing its products to India, regardless of the final pricing in our market. The CE 04 is the latest example of that with a sticker of Rs 14.90 lakh (ex-showroom India). So, what do you get for all that moolah?

Lots of attention

Of course, because of the price… but also because of how it looks. The industrial design of the scooter is bound to turn heads and make tongues wag. The orange-tinted flyscreen, big headlight, winglet-equipped side panels and obviously, the long bench seat is unlike anything in the market currently. Even the covered off-set rear shock and the wheel design add to the visual drama.

CE-04

Lots of performance, but…

The BMW CE 04 packs a liquid-cooled PMSM motor with a peak output of 31 kW (41.57 bhp) and a rated capacity of 15 kW or 20.11 bhp. Now, this may not sound much, but the only scooter to top this is the BMW C 400 GT. However, with over 6 kgm (max output) of instantaneous torque, overtakes and commutes should be fun, but the top speed is limited to 120 kph.

BMW Motorrad claims that the e-scooter can give a range of 130 km on a full charge. The 11 kW battery takes almost four and a half hours for a full charge with the standard charger, and the optional fast charger juices up the battery in just over an hour.

Lots of features, too

This electric scooter uses a 10.25-inch TFT display with which you can toggle between the three modes: Eco, Rain and Road. Furthermore, there’s ABS and traction control as standard while Dynamic package (ABS Pro, Dynamic Traction Control, lighting ring, adaptive headlight, Dynamic riding mode) comes as an optional extra.

The BMW e-scooter boasts of keyless ignition as standard, and for some extra money, you can enjoy the luxuries of heated grips and seat. There’s also a tyre pressure monitor as an optional extra.

At almost Rs 15 lakh, undoubtedly this is the most expensive electric two-wheeler and scooter you can buy in India at the moment. Furthermore, being a full import, it will attract more taxes, too. But come on, if you want a stylish and exclusive city runabout, there’s nothing that can beat the CE 04.
