While lineup expansions are obviously good news in general, sometimes it’s confusing to keep up with all the different trims and variants a car is offered in . But enough of that, let’s talk about what Volkswagen has in store for us! The German car maker has not only revamped the Taigun lineup, it has also confirmed its first EV for India, as well as unveiled a concept based on the Virtus, both of which are headed later this year.
Let’s start with the Taigun. The German car maker has revamped the Taigun lineup, and it will now be offered in three trims; GT Edge, Chrome, and Sport. VW has also unveiled two new variants called the GT Plus Sport and the GT Line. Throughout its lineup, the Taigun retains the same mechanicals and is only differentiated cosmetically. Both variants replace most of the chrome bits from the standard Taigun, with the exterior elements now receiving blacked-out treatment. The GT Plus Sport additionally receives bits such as red brake callipers and red GT badging on the fenders, tailgate, and the grille. Both models also get 17-inch Cassino black alloy rims.
On the inside, the Taigun GT Plus Sport and GT Line receive all-black treatment, but the GT Plus Sport additionally also gets red inserts, red GT lettering on the seats, and red stitching on the seats and steering wheel. The GT Plus Sport also gets aluminium pedals.
Under the hood, the 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre TSI powertrains continue to be on offer. The GT Plus Sport variant gets the larger 1.5-litre TSI unit with 148 bhp and 25.49 kgm of torque, paired to either a six-speed manual or the seven-speed DSG. The GT Line variant will make do with the smaller 1.0-litre mill, packing 114 bhp and 18.15 kgm of torque. You can pair this up with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter unit.
But wait, there’s more. If you’ve been waiting for an electric car from VW, you might want to see this. After months of speculation, VW has finally confirmed the ID.4 will begin its EV innings in India. When is it expected? VW hasn’t said anything explicitly, but we can expect it around the same time the Skoda Enyaq comes along, which is later this year. VW has also showcased a Virtus GT Plus Sport, which it says is in the concept stage for now, but it is also headed our way later this year.
