Volkswagen has released the prices for the Ameo diesel and they deserve a bit of analysis. The cheapest Ameo diesel in the Trendline trim with the manual five-speed ‘box is Rs 6.33 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). That is around Rs 90,000 more expensive than a petrol Ameo of the same variant and is a very substantial Rs 3.2 lakhs cheaper than a Vento Trendline Diesel! This three lakh price difference is a constant across the Vento and the Ameo diesel variants. If you want an diesel Ameo with a DSG, the Comfortline will set you back by Rs 8.5 lakh and the top-spec Highline is priced at Rs 9.21 lakh, well below the Rs 10 lakh mark.
Infact it woudnt be exactly fair to compare this with the Vento, because this 1.5-litre engine is an updated unit and produces 108 bhp, five more than the one in the Vento. The manual gearbox option is a five-speed unit and the DSG is a seven-speed one. Dual airbags and ABS standard across all variants, while additionally, the DSG-equipped cars come with ESP and Hill Hold. As with the petrol Ameo, the higher variants of the diesel come with features like rain sensing wipers, cruise control, a touchscreen infotainment system and a rear view parking camera.
