Hatchbacks are finally regaining momentum, and oh what a welcome change it is. We are sure everyone will agree with us here, especially when there’s been an influx of all kinds of SUVs until recently. A hatchback was always going to be a welcome change, and a hot hatchback? Even more so!

Tata Motors has just dropped another teaser of its next big thing; the Altroz JT…erm, I meant the Altroz Racer! This isn’t going to just some cosmetic job, is it? Not at all! The Altroz Racer will borrow the Nexon’s 1.2-litre turbo-petrol powertrain, and to make things even better, a 6-speed manual transmission. Output figures? 118.2 bhp and 17.33 kgm of torque. These numbers may sound similar to the Hyundai i20 N Line, but look at the bright side; you have at least one more option to choose from in the hot hatch segment.

What else? The Altroz Racer will feature a dual-tone paint scheme to differentiate itself from its regular versions, along with 16-inch 10-spoke alloy rims. The dual-tone treatment extends all the way from the roof to the bonnet of the car, also featuring twin white stripes. Inside, the Altroz Racer will likely offer black upholstery with some contrast, along with the newer, larger infotainment unit from the Nexon, and if you look closely enough at the picture above, you might see the placement of a head-up display.

Needless to say, the Tata Altroz Racer will be priced similarly to the Hyundai i20 N Line. The Korean currently costs between Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 12.51 lakh (ex-showroom). Now, who said the Altroz Racer reminded them of JTP?
