Maruti Suzuki India has bought forward dates for its scheduled shutting down of the plants for maintenance work. Production will be stopped for both the Gurugram and Manesar plants between June 6th and June 11th, instead of the earlier dates which were June 27th to July 2nd. One of the reasons why Maruti has opted to carry out the maintenance work earlier than scheduled is because production was already affected by the fire at Subros, one its major component suppliers. Because of the fire, the plants were shut last week, although production restarted on June 1st.

The fire had already disrupted the production at both plants, and now due to the maintaince shutdown, the waiting preriods are going to increase. Both the Baleno and Vitara Brezza had long waiting periods before the fire broke out, and now it is only going to get longer. As of today the Brezza, for example, has a waiting period of between 9 to 10 months for all its variants and the Baleno has a waiting period of seven months, with the wait longer for the higher end variants for both the cars.
