The Jeep Wrangler has been given a comprehensive set of upgrades for 2024, and we have just gotten back from driving it. Or rather, ‘testing’ its limits all around Chandigarh and Punjab. The 2024 Jeep Wrangler is available in two variants; the Unlimited can be yours starting from Rs 67.65 lakh (ex-showroom), while the top-end Rubicon is priced at Rs 71.65 lakh (ex-showroom).
The grille on the Wrangler is always a hot topic, for reasons best not discussed here (ahem!). While the iconic seven slots remain, they now get blacked-out treatment and appear sleeker than before. The profile and the rear remain unchanged, but there’s a camera in the centre of the grille. The Wrangler becomes the first car to feature a windshield made of corning gorilla glass, which is said to provide enhanced clarity and protection. The windscreen folds, while the doors and the rooftop can also be fully removed, just like before. 17-inch black and 18-inch grey alloy rims are available.
The interiors have been revamped, with a new dashboard housing a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the latest UI. Swathed in black Nappa leather, the front seats are heated and receive 12-step power-adjustability. There’s also a front camera in the centre of the grille, an 8-speaker sound system with a woofer courtesy of Alpine, a tyre-pressure monitoring system and wireless smartphone charging among other things. The 2024 Wrangler gets an ADAS suite with adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning and braking assist. It also gets six airbags and hill-assist as part of the safety features list.
In terms of hardware, the Jeep Wrangler now gets a new heavy-duty full-float Dana rear axle, which is said to enhance the Wrangler’s towing abilities. It also gets detachable sway bars and Tru-Lock front and rear locking differentials. The 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine has been retained, packing 266 bhp and 40.78 kgm of torque, paired to an 8-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.
With these prices, do you think the 2024 Jeep Wrangler is a commendable buy, especially when you factor that the likes of the Land Rover Defender and the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen are much more expensive?
