Triumph Motorcycles has launched the newest member of its 400 family — the Speed T4 with a price tag of Rs 2.17 lakh. This was accompanied by the introduction of the MY25 Speed 400 which now demands Rs 2.40 lakh (both prices ex-showroom Delhi).
Triumph Speed T4: Speed Just Got Affordable!
The Speed T4 is a good Rs 23,000 more affordable than the updated Speed 400. Triumph has used 43-mm telescopic forks on the T4 instead of the USD units from Speed, and also equipped it with MRF tyres. While the front tyre continues to be of the same size as the Speed 400, the rear is now a 140/70 – R17 instead of the 150/60 – R17 unit. Even the front brake caliper is now an axial unit instead of the radial one seen on the Speed 400. Interestingly, this bike is heavier than the Speed 40 by 1 kg.
Though the Triumph Speed T4 continues to be powered by the same 399cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, the performance outputs have now changed. It now delivers 30.6 bhp at 7000 rpm and 3.67 kgm at 5000 rpm. For reference, the Speed 400 delivers 39.5 bhp and 3.82 kgm. The company has introduced this retune for riders who prefer an easy-going ride. Triumph has not skimped on the traction control, however, instead of a ride-by-wire throttle, this bike gets a cable-operated throttle.
There are no changes to the design of the motorcycle with the only exception being of the mirrors. Instead of the bar-end ones from the standard model, the company has used traditional ones similar to the Scrambler 400X.
MY25 Triumph Speed 400: Same Same, But Different
The Triumph Speed 400 has seen a jump of Rs 6,000 over its predecessor. For the extra money you pay, the company now provides adjustable clutch and brake levers, and interestingly, new tyres from Vredestein. Yes, instead of the MRF Steel Brace and Apollo H1 rubbers, Triumph has gone ahead with the Netherlands-based company which is owned by Apollo Tyres.
For the Speed T4 and the Speed 400, Triumph has introduced new colours and liveries. Even the exhaust and header pipe for both bikes is finished in matte black.
With the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 priced at Rs 2.39 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards, and the likes of newly launched Jawa 42 FJ available at Rs 2.16 lakh, the Speed T4 makes the Triumph brand even more accessible.
