Progressing on the path to better safety, the Indian arm of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, has launched the new Gixxer with the optional anti-lock braking system. The ABS variant has been priced at Rs 88,920 (ex-showroom, Mumbai), which is Rs 6728 more expensive than the rear-disc version. The single-channel ABS unit features a pulse plate and wheel speed sensor fitted on the front wheel which activates the ABS function in case of wheel lock-up on braking. This contributes to better stability and controlled braking for the rider.
Apart from the addition of the ABS option, the Gixxer remains the same on the mechanical front. Power is derived from the same all-aluminium 154.9cc 4-stroke, single cylinder motor that puts out 14.6 bhp and 1.42 kgm mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The Gixxer ABS features an additional Suzuki Jet cooling system (SJCS) allowing better cooling of the engine which as per the company results in better power and mileage.
It is available in a choice of three colours namely, Metallic Triton Blue/Glass Sparkle Black, Candy Sonoma Red/Metallic Sonic Silver and Glass Sparkle Black.
Executive vice-president, Sales and Marketing, SMIPL, Sajeev Rajasekharan, said, “Ever since its launch, the Gixxer has emerged as a benchmark for the segment, managing to ‘Stay Ahead of the Pack’ in terms of technology and performance. The ABS option allows us to improve on an already exciting riding experience for our Gixxer customers. The Gixxer series is an important cog of our India product-strategy. With enhancements like ABS, we will continue to improve on the value-proposition we offer to our customers.”
