For the first time, Mercedes-Benz hasn’t launched a new car today. In fact, it has launched a range of new electric cycles as well as a new experience centre called Mercedes-Benz Studio in Gurugram. The Studio is one of 14 such experience centres around the world, and in India, it’s only in Gurugram.
At the Mercedes-Benz Studio, prospective customers can experience what it is like to be part of the Mercedes-Benz brand, and can even order and customise their next car. The Studio includes a cafe and a small patisserie, a small display of a Mercedes-Benz flagship model, and a lounge. It also allows you to buy apparel from the Mercedes-Benz and Adidas collaboration, ranging from T-shirts to caps to hoodies and more.
As mentioned earlier, there are also a trio of electric cycles that Mercedes-Benz has launched. The base variant (City) is priced at Rs 4.20 lakh, while the mid variant (Track) is priced at Rs 5.40 lakh, and the top-spec (Rallye) variant is priced at a whopping Rs 7.60 lakh. Apart from the prices, there are mechanical differences too. These bikes are built in collaboration with E Motorad.
Each electric cycle comes with a 250W hub motor with three riding modes — Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus. Each also provides speed assistance of up to 25 kph and can be ridden on battery power for up to 100 km. There’s also a 5.5-inch TFT display that shows vital information to the rider.
The City variant comes with a 9-speed Shimano drivetrain and a rigid alloy fork at the front. It also gets an option for an additional battery pack, and it is meant for daily commuting. The Track comes with the same drivetrain and suspension setup, but has Pirelli Angel Urban GT semi-slick tyres, and the additional battery is offered as standard. It’s the Rally variant that things become different. It comes with Pinion Smart.Shift system and a carbon belt, as well as a front fork with 80 mm travel. Since the Rallye is a mountain terrain bike, it comes with Pirelli Scorpion eMTB tyres.
As part of the partnership, EMotorad will be responsible for assembly, supply, warranty registration, distribution, and servicing of the three e-cycles. Additionally, you can order these cycles in two sizes — Small or Medium — and prices are identical for both.
In addition to the two launches, Mercedes-Benz also showcased the AMG Concept GT XX for the first time in India. This isn’t the first time the German brand has brought a radical concept to Indian shores, but this is the first time such a vehicle is displayed in Delhi NCR, while all previous versions have been displayed at Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in Mumbai.
The AMG GT XX concept is built on Mercedes-AMG’s new AMG.EA architecture. If you want to read more about it, head here.
