Volkswagen India has officially opened pre-bookings for the Tayron R-Line, and if you like your SUVs big, fast, and unapologetically loaded, this one wants a spot on your shortlist. Ahead of its February 2026 launch, the brand is letting buyers reserve its new flagship seven-seater with a token amount of Rs. 51,000, both online and at authorised dealerships.

What this really means is that Volkswagen is finally stepping into the premium three-row SUV fight in India, a space it’s been politely observing for a while now. The Tayron R-Line arrives as its statement piece, sitting above the Tiguan and clearly aiming for buyers who want size, performance, and tech without jumping ship to luxury brands.

Visually, the Tayron R-Line doesn’t hold back. You get HD Matrix headlamps, illuminated VW logos at the front and rear, R-Line specific bumpers and detailing, and 19-inch alloy wheels that fill the arches nicely. Colour choices are refreshingly varied too, with options like Dolphin Grey, Oyster Silver, Cipressino Green, Ultraviolet, Nightshade Blue, Grenadilla Black, and Oryx White. Conservative buyers are covered, and so are those who like their SUVs to stand out in the parking lot.

Step inside and the Tayron leans heavily into the tech-first approach. The cabin is dominated by a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a head-up display with augmented reality. There’s also a panoramic sunroof, because no premium SUV launch in 2026 is complete without one.

Comfort levels are turned all the way up. The front seats offer 12-way electric adjustment with memory, ventilation, massage, and lumbar support, essentially turning your daily commute into a mild spa session. Other highlights include a 700-watt Harman Kardon sound system, three-zone climate control, a gesture-controlled tailgate, and 30-colour ambient lighting to match whatever mood the traffic puts you in.

Powering the Tayron R-Line is a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine producing 201 bhp and 32.6kgm of torque, paired with a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive. Performance figures are strong for a three-row SUV, with Volkswagen claiming a 0–100 kph time of 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 224 kph. In other words, this one won’t feel slow just because you’ve filled all three rows.

With bookings now underway, Volkswagen India is clearly ready to take on the big names. Once launched, the Tayron R-Line will square up against rivals like the Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner, Jeep Meridian, and the upcoming MG Majestor.

In short, the Tayron R-Line feels like Volkswagen reminding everyone that it can do big, fast, and fancy too. February 2026 might still be some distance away, but this one has already started making the right noises.
