Citroën has rolled out a new top-spec Basalt X range in India, with prices kicking off at ₹9.42 lakh (ex-showroom). The coupé SUV now comes exclusively with this flagship trim, featuring the brand’s 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
On the outside, not much separates the Basalt X from the standard model. The only real change is a fresh ‘X’ badge on the tailgate — similar to what we recently saw with the Citroën C3 X. Step inside, though, and the Basalt X Max makes a stronger case for itself. The cabin gets a few thoughtful touches like slanted dashboard patterns, bronze highlights, and dual-tone tan-and-black upholstery. There’s also a leatherette-wrapped dashboard, which gives the interior a more premium vibe.
The real highlight, however, is the feature upgrade. The Basalt X Max introduces Cara, Citroën’s new in-car conversational assistant. It’s not just voice commands; it can pull up live flight status updates, optimise navigation in sync with flight schedules, check vehicle health, set reminders, handle multimedia, place calls, and even send SOS alerts. For now, Cara is exclusive to the Basalt X Max automatic variants.
On the equipment front, Citroën has ticked several boxes that Indian buyers look for: ventilated seats, cruise control, push-button start, keyless entry, LED fog lamps, an auto-dimming IRVM, ambient white cabin lighting, and even an optional 360-degree camera for added convenience.
Under the skin, nothing changes. It retains the familiar 110 bhp, 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that’s already available on the Max trims. Meanwhile, the entry-level Basalt X still runs the 82 bhp, 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired only with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
