Volvo India has quietly delisted the S90 sedan from its website, indicating that the premium sedan has been discontinued in India. With the S90 no longer on sale, Volvo India’s lineup now only includes SUVs, such as the XC40, XC60, XC90, EX40, and EC40.
The Indian spec of the S90 was the top-spec B5 trim level, which came equipped with features like a four-zone climate control, 360-degree camera, a 19-speaker 1900W Bowers and Wilkins audio system, ventilated and massage front seats, a level 2 ADAS suite and air suspension. Powering the S90 was a 250 bhp, 2.0-litre, four-cylinder mild-hybrid petrol motor.
Volvo had launched the updated S90 back in October 2021, and it was priced at Rs 68.25 lakh (ex-showroom, India). While it was locally assembled in India, it failed to keep up with its competition, the BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which offered better tech, more powertrain options, resulting in low sales numbers for it.
Globally, Volvo has already revamped the S90 with a second facelift, which includes a revised exterior design, a larger touchscreen with new tech, and updated mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrain options. Additionally, a fully electric sibling called the ES90 was also unveiled in March, offering a claimed range of 700 km from a 106 kWh battery.
There is no indication from the brand whether it plans to launch the facelifted S90 in India, which suggests that the brand is focusing on keeping the Indian market solely on its SUV portfolio.
