Ever fancied having a M Sport kitted 5-Series but without having to spend on the top-spec M5 or the sublime 530d? Well, that dream can be realised now, as the BMW 520d has been launched in an M Sport guise.
How much and why?
Priced at Rs 54 lakh, ex-showroom, the BMW 520d M Sport gets an M aerodynamics package, 18-inch alloys, and a couple of M badges. On the inside it gets the M multifunction steering, leather-clad front sport seats, an aluminium interior trim strip, and a BMW Individual headliner.
What powers it?
The 520d M Sport continues to be powered by a turbocharged1,995 cc diesel engine which makes 190 bhp and 400 Nm. The rear-wheel drive executive sedan gets an eight-speed automatic gearbox, and manages to achieve 0-100 km/h in 7.7 seconds, before hitting a top-speed of 233 km/h.
The list of standard equipment includes driver aids (ABS, stability control, cornering brake control, traction control, hill descent control), BMW’s iDrive with a 25.9cm colour display, six airbags, and fuel-saving tech (ECO PRO modes, auto start-stop, brake energy regeneration), etc.
Colour choices include Alpine White, Mediterranean Blue, and Carbon Black.
Anything else?
Like the rest of the diesel-powered 5-Series range, the BMW 520d M Sport will be manufactured in Chennai. The regular 520d is also available (in Prestige Plus and Luxury Line versions), and so is the more powerful 530d M Sport. Petrol options include the BMW 520d (available only as a CBU) and the car which epitomises the performance super-saloon, the M5.
