Ultraviolette Automotive has launched its second electric motorcycle — the F77 SuperStreet. As the name suggests, this is based on the F77 platform and is designed to be a more street-friendly motorcycle than the Mach 2. Interestingly, at Rs 2.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the SuperStreet is priced the same as the Mach 2. So, what changed with the new bike?
The handlebar — instead of the clip-ons, the SuperStreet features a single-piece ’bar. This means there’s a new triple-clamp, too. And of course, for a nice finish, and as per the company, some aero advantage, a flyscreen, too. That’s it. Apart from these, the bike is exactly the same as the Mach 2, save for some changes in the liveries and paint schemes. So, the new handlebar is meant to make commutes easier since it now sits taller and is wider than the one on the Mach 2.
Ultraviolette has two variants of the F77 SuperStreet: Standard and Recon. While the Standard packs around 36 bhp and 9 kgm of peak performance, the Recon boasts of additional 4 bhp and 1 kgm. The Standard’s 7.1 kWh battery is good for a claimed 211 km, the 10 kWh unit on the Recon can last for 323 km. Charging rate of 35 km-per-hour is the same for both, but given the battery capacity, the Recon takes five hours to charge from 20 per cent to 80 per cent, while the Standard does the same in three hours.
With the launch of the Ultraviolette F77 SuperStreet, the company has also launched the UVLync adapter which can help you connect the three-pin plug on your UV’s charger to any Type-2 AC car charging station. And the best part is that UVLync can be used for almost any premium electric two-wheeler in India. Not bad for something that costs just Rs 2,999, right?
So, along with the standard and boost chargers, the company now not only has the Supernova Plus 12kW DC fast charger being set up across the country, but even a device that can let you utilise the car-charging grid. And now with the SuperStreet on the streets, comfortable touring on this EV may not be a bad idea, after all.
But does changing the handlebar make that big a difference? Well, you’ll find out on February 6 when our review of the SuperStreet goes live.
