What is it?

Samsung’s latest foldable flagship, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, is the successor to the (you guessed it) Fold 6. It was launched recently alongside an updated flip phone, the Galaxy Z Flip 7, whose previous model we reviewed last year. The Fold 7 is a phone and tablet in one device, which should be music to the ears of those who want something that can be a proper all-rounder.

Why is it cool?

It’s incredibly thin and light, for one. At 8.9 mm when folded, 4.2 mm unfolded and 215 grams in weight, it fits easily in a pocket and rivals flagship non-foldables in dimensions and tech. There’s a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset powering it, with One UI 8 on Android16. The 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display (2184×1968, 120Hz, 2600 nits) and 6.5-inch cover screen (2520×1080, 21:9 aspect ratio) offer crisp, vibrant visuals, with Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 and a less noticeable crease; the main screen is rated for 5 lakh folds. A standout upgrade is the 200MP main camera, borrowed from the Galaxy S25 Ultra, alongside a 12MP ultrawide with a macro, and a 10MP telephoto. Galaxy AI enhances photo editing, with tools like Audio Eraser and multimodal Gemini Live. Flip sides? The 4400- mAh battery remains unchanged, offering middling endurance for heavy users — and there’s no S Pen compatibility anymore. The camera bump is massive, and causes the phone to wobble on flat surfaces, something partially corrected with a case.

Is it expensive?

Is the Pope Catholic? Prices begin at Rs. 1.75 lakh for the 12GB+256GB version, going up to Rs. 2.17 lakh for the one with 16GB+1TB; Samsung is currently running a scheme where the 12GB+512GB version is also Rs. 1.75 lakh. In comparison, an iPhone 16 Pro Max 1TB is Rs. 1.85 lakh, so you really need to be a Samsung foldable fan to get the new Fold 7.
