Porsche India has announced the pricing for the limited-run 911 Turbo 50 Years. The Porsche 911 Turbo 50 Years edition has just hit Indian shores, with a sticker price starting at a cool INR 4.05 crore (ex-showroom, mind you). Now, before you say, ‘That’s one pricey piece of nostalgia,’ let’s take a closer look at what makes this limited-run machine a true homage to five decades of Turbo thrills.

First up, let’s address the elephant in the garage – the numbers. Only 1,974 of these beauties will roll out of the factory, a nod to the year 1974 when the original 911 Turbo made its debut. That year, Porsche flipped the sports car world on its head with the 930 Turbo, setting the stage for generations of adrenaline-pumping performance. And now, half a century later, we get a special edition that’s all about blending heritage with modern-day firepower.

The 911 Turbo 50 Years edition comes at a premium – around INR 7 lakh more than the current Turbo S. But who’s counting, right? For context, it’s also INR 2 crore more than the standard 911 Carrera, and about INR 1.26 crore more than the Carrera 4 GTS. Those two models come with the new turbocharged hybrid engine and are based on the latest 992.2 generation, whereas the 50 Years edition and the Turbo S are still rocking the 992.1 platform. Confused? Don’t be. Just know that the 50 Years model is a blend of modern muscle with a dash of old-school cool.

The 50 Years edition doesn’t just talk the talk; it’s got the looks to back it up. Vinyl graphics on the sides harken back to the iconic Porsche 911 RSR Turbo concept. Unique badging and logos pop up all over – from the rear engine cover to the puddle lights. And if you’re feeling particularly nostalgic, you can spring for the Heritage Design Package. This adds a slick Aventurine Green Metallic paint job, satin white graphics, and some serious retro flair with the 1964 Porsche crest on the bonnet and Sport Classic wheels. The Turbo 50 and Porsche logos on the rear, finished in gold, make sure no one misses your special-edition credentials.

Step inside, and it’s a tartan takeover. The seats and door panels are wrapped in classic Mackenzie tartan, reminiscent of the original 911s. The Heritage Design Package doesn’t stop there – the instrument cluster dials and the Sport Chrono clock get a green finish, adding a splash of nostalgia to the high-tech cockpit. It’s a space where old-school charm meets new-age precision.

Under the hood, it’s all business. The 50 Years edition packs the same 650hp, 80.37 kgm of torque from the 3.7-litre twin-turbo flat-six engine as the 911 Turbo S. That means a 0-100 kph sprint in just 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 330 kph. To put that in perspective, this special edition has more than double the power of the original 930 Turbo. Back in 1974, the 930 was the wild child of the Porsche lineup, and now, 50 years later, the 911 Turbo 50 Years edition is carrying that torch with a vengeance.

So, what’s the takeaway? The 911 Turbo 50 Years isn’t just a car; it’s a celebration of an icon. It’s a high-octane salute to 50 years of rear-engine magic, blending the best of both worlds – heritage and high performance. And with only 1,974 units available worldwide, it’s a slice of history that’s likely to be gobbled up faster than you can say Nougt to 100.

For those lucky enough to snag one, it’s not just about owning a piece of Porsche’s past; it’s about driving the future of what’s possible when passion and precision collide. Turbocharged memories, anyone?
