Mercedes-Benz India has announced the prices for its new mid-sized SUV, the GLC. There are two engines on offer, a petrol and diesel, with the GLC220d diesel launched at Rs 50.7 lakh and the GLC300 petrol has been priced at Rs 50.9 lakh, both prices being ex-showroom, Pune. The GLC, for now, is going to be fully imported as complete units to India and the prices mentioned are for the initial batch of Edition 1 special editions.
The diesel engine is the familiar 2,143cc unit found in the C-Class with a power rating of 167 bhp and 40.8 kgm, while the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol churns out 242 bhp and 37.7 kgm. Both the engines are paired with the 9G-TRONIC transmission and the power is sent to all four wheels via the proprietary Mercedes 4Matic system. Mercedes is also offering the off-road package with the GLC launched here, which raises the suspension by 20mm and allows the driver to choose between four off-road modes to choose from. Together with the off-road modes, there is a hill descent control too, called the Downhill Speed Regulation (DSR). Similiar to the C-Class, there are five driving modes to choose from via the Dynamic Select controller – Comfort, Eco, Sport, Sport +, Individual. Since its the Edition 1 models, the interiors are well appointed with wood and silver chrome, light package, touchpads and a panoramic sunroof. In addition it gets ‘Edition 1’ badges on the wings together with five spoke alloys.
It is not yet known whether Mercedes intends to start assembling the GLC at a future date or whether there will be a price drop for the non-Edition 1 cars.
