Prices for the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga have just been announced, with the base Lxi variant coming in at Rs 8.35 lakh, and the top-spec Zxi+ AT trim costing Rs 12.79 lakh, ex-showroom, India. The marginal bump in price comes from the relatively minor exterior changes, but more from the significantly revised mechanicals and the added equipment.

The changes to the design — from the new front grille with an embedded ‘winged’ chrome trim, and new dual-tone alloy wheels to the chrome garnish on the tailgate — seem to be enough to keep the Ertiga looking fresh. Maruti Suzuki offers two new colours on the Ertiga, Splendid Silver and Dignity Brown, and has also tried to jazz up the cabin with a new faux wood finish on the dash and a new dual-tone seat fabric.

Under the hood of the Ertiga facelift is a new 1.5-litre DualJet naturally aspirated petrol engine making 102 bhp and 13.95 kgm of torque, which is a slight decrease over the outgoing 1.5-litre engine. On the flip side, this new engine is quite a bit more frugal than the older model, delivering an ARAI-rated 20.51kpl with the manual gearbox and 20.30kpl with the automatic. Speaking of the automatic gearbox, the 4-speed torque convertor has been replaced by a new 6-speed unit, which can be operated via paddle shifters. This is, perhaps, the most welcome change.

For those looking for even greater economy, Maruti Suzuki offers a factory-fit CNG kit. Naturally, output figures are comparatively down — 86 bhp and 12.39 kgm when run on CNG and 99 bhp and 13.87 kgm when run on petrol — and there’s only a manual option, but the Ertiga CNG is claimed to go 26.11km on a kilo of CNG.

In top-spec Zxi+ form, the Ertiga gets equipment such as an updated 7-inch infotainment touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, the Suzuki Connect connected car tech, four airbags, ABS with EBD and BA, hill-hold assist, ESP, ISOFIX mounts, a rear camera, cruise control, auto headlamps, electrically foldable ORVMs, cooled cup holders, and AC vents for all three rows.

Through the Maruti Suzuki Subscribe service, you can lease the 2022 Ertiga petrol from Rs 18,600 a month, or the CNG version starting from Rs 22,400 a month.
