The 2024 Kia EV9 secured two awards at the 2024 World Car Awards, held during the New York Auto Show. A panel of 100 automotive journalists from 29 nations chose the EV9 as the recipient of the ‘World Car of the Year’ and the ‘World Electric Vehicle’.

Established in 2003, the World Car Awards represent a global standard for automotive excellence, recognizing exceptional achievements within the ever-changing automotive industry.

This marks Kia’s latest triumph at the World Car Awards, having claimed victory three times already. Past wins include the Kia Telluride as World Car of the Year, the Kia Soul EV as World Urban Car in 2020, and the Kia EV6 GT, which secured the title of World Performance Car of the Year in 2023.

Expressing profound honour at the dual victory, Kia’s President and CEO, Ho Sung Song, underscored the brand’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology and design. He reiterated Kia’s dedication to delivering outstanding vehicles that redefine the global driving experience.

The Kia EV9 has also received numerous other accolades, including the ‘Family Cars’ category at the Golden Steering Wheel Awards, the 2024 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year, and the ‘Best Premium SUV’ at the 2023 Newsweek Autos Awards.

The Kia EV9, produced by Kia is a seven-seater all-electric mid-size SUV.  It is not currently available in India but is expected to be released later this year.

The Kia EV9 is offered internationally in five trims, ranging from the Light rear-wheel drive to the GT-line all-wheel-drive. The variants primarily differ cosmetically, with the top-spec trim boasting a range of up to 430 kilometres on a single charge from its 379bhp peak power and 71kgm peak torque electric powertrain. The SUV features an onboard power generator capable of 110V and a full LED system.

The top-spec variant can also tow weights up to 2260 kilograms. The GT-line trim includes exclusive roof rails, 21-inch sports wheels, GT-interior colour and stitching, a 12-inch heads-up display, ADAS features such as remote smart parking assist, front and side parking collision avoidance assist, blind-spot detection, junction collision avoidance, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance technology, and a relaxation mode, which includes upgraded driver and passenger seats, among other community features.
