This isn’t a sub-4-metre compact SUV, but it is still a compact B-SUV from Hyundai. The Hyundai Bayon is exclusive launched for the European market. Measuring 4180 mm in length, the Bayon is quite a bit over the 4-metre rule to call it a compact SUV in India. Anyway, the recently launched cars from Hyundai are sharper in design and expresses bold characteristics along with technology.

The Bayon has quite a few engine options on offer. The 1.2-litre, four-cylinder engine producing close to 83 bhp and 12 kgm of torque is the sole naturally aspirated engine of the lot. The rest of the three engines are turbocharged. This 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine is available in three states of tune. One produces 99 bhp and 17.5 kgm of torque, while the other two engines with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology produce 99 bhp and 118 bhp. Transmission duties for the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine is carried out by a 5-speed manual gearbox. Whereas all the other turbocharged engines get a choice of either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT. What’s interesting is that it gets rev-matching tech as well as seen on the i30N. Engage in Sport mode and the Bayon will rev-match your downshifts. Sweet. The manual variant tips the scale at 1120 kg and does the 0-100 kph run in 10.4 seconds, and maxes out at 185 kph.

Take a peek inside and you see two giant 10.25-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment display. It now also features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Plus, you get a bunch of safety features, one of which is ‘ROA’. This is short for Rear Occupant Alert, which alerts the rear occupants with the help of a sensor if there’s a child or a pet near the door. Now, that’s quite a thoughtful feature. Do you think the Bayon’s new technology should make its way to Hyundai’s current lineup of cars?
