Powering the car, like the original, is a 1.1-litre engine that makes 68 bhp and 10.1 kgm. A slightly less powerful CNG version is also launched. The same engine, powered by CNG, is rated at 58 bhp and 8.6 kgm. In terms of gearbox choices, while a 5-speed manual is standard, the Santro can also be specified with an in-house-developed AMT. Which makes it the first Hyundai product in the country to be launched with an automated manual transmission. Since fuel economy is of paramount importance in the compact car segment, you’d be glad to learn that the Hyundai Santro is said to return an ARAI-certified 20.3 kpl on petrol and 30.5 km/kg of CNG.
Based on the Grand i10’s platform, made with 63 per cent advanced high-strength steel and high strength steel, the all-new Santro comes with first-in-segment features like a rear AC vent, reverse parking camera with sensors, and an Android Auto/Apple CarPlay-ready 17.64 cm touchscreen infotainment system. The spacious cabin is further complemented by an equally large boot with a capacity of 235 litres. Other features include remote keyless entry, electrically adjustable ORVMs, USB port, front and rear power windows, etc. Dual airbags are optional — with the driver airbag and ABS with EBD being standard on all variants.
In addition to this, the new Hyundai Santro comes with a 3-year/300,000-km warranty along with road-side assistance. Hyundai also maintains that the car will incur the lowest cost of maintenance in the segment. In terms of dimensions, it is 3610 mm long, 1645 mm wide, and 1560 mm tall. The wheelbase is 2400 mm long, while the standard tyre size is 165/70 R14.
There are seven colours to choose from, including the new shades of Imperial Beige and Diana Green. The latter is a sporting take on the Santro, and comes with a special all-black interior with green accents.
