Mercedes-Benz has started off 2024 with an updated version of its luxury SUV, the GLS. With prices starting from Rs 1.32 crore (ex-showroom), the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS is available in both petrol and diesel trims, going up against the likes of the BMW X7, Volvo XC90, and the Audi Q7,. The diesel variant, the GLS 450d 4MATIC can be had from Rs 1.37 crore (ex-showroom) onwards.

The GLS facelift gets a new grille and revised bumper

So what’s new in the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS? While it doesn’t appear drastically different from the outgoing model, there is a new grille with four chrome slats instead of two, featuring a slightly revised design. Other redesigned bits include a front bumper and tail-lamps. The alloy wheels have been retained from the outgoing model.

Both powertrains receive mild hybrid tech

You get two powertrain options with the 2024 GLS; a 3-litre, six-cylinder petrol mill with 375 bhp and 50.98 kgm of torque, while the diesel is also a 3-litre, six-cylinder unit with 361 bhp and 71.3 kgm of torque. Both powertrains are paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission, and they are also equipped with mild hybrid technology.

Subtle changes to the interiors

The overall layout of the interiors appears similar to the outgoing model, including the blended screen setup, but it now features an updated version of the MBUX infotainment software. What’s new here is the steering wheel, with a mix of touch controls and physical buttons. The upholstery of the interiors can also be had in either black, beige, or brown.

In terms of equipment, the Mercedes-Benz GLS now gets ADAS features such as blind spot assist, autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control among others. It also gets a 360-degree camera, off-road screens with an invisible bonnet mode, HD screens for the second-row passengers, five-zone climate control, adjustable air suspension, powered tailgate, memory functions for the seats, and wireless smartphone connectivity among other things.
