It is no secret that the Yamaha YZF-R3 and the MT-03 are Indiabound. Both the bikes have been making their appearance in eve nts over the last few months. However, it is only now that the Japanese brand has confirmed that the bikes will make their official debut in our country on December 15.
But the bikes will be only available through Yamaha’s Blue Square dealerships in over 100 cities. Now, the concerning part is that the Japanese marque intends to bring both the bikes via the CBU route, at least initially, which is going to make them quite expensive compared to their competitors.
For perspective, the KTM 390 Duke is priced at Rs 3.11 lakh, while the RC 390 demands Rs 3.18 lakh. We expect the Yamaha MT-03 and the R3 to make your pockets lighter by Rs 4 lakh to Rs 4.3 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).
The Yamaha R3 and the MT-03 get the same 321cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin motor making 42 bhp and 3 kgm nestled in a diamond-type frame. Both the bikes get USD fork and monoshock to handle suspension duties, while electronics include only dual-channel ABS.
Considering the package that the competition is offering, the Yamaha twins need competitive pricing to stay afloat in a price-sensitive market like ours. We are already in Thailand riding the two bikes, so stay tuned to know if these are worth splurging the moolah.
