After weeks of speculation regarding the entry of this new brand, BYD has confirmed that its luxury division, Denza, will debut in India on November 13. While some may have considered BYD to be a slightly premium brand, Denza will dial up that premium quotient to 11. At the moment, there’s no confirmation of which will be the first product for Denza in India.
However, there are rumours that Denza will begin its innings with the launch of the D9 MPV, to take on rivals like the Kia Carnival, MG M9, Mercedes-Benz V-Class, Lexus LM, and Toyota Vellfire. Luxury MPVs have recently started gaining momentum in the Indian market, as they are now being considered worthy contenders to luxury SUVs and sedans.
The other rumour is regarding the Z9 GT coming to India. It is a five-door shooting brake, and one can consider it against the likes of a Porsche Taycan, Lotus Emeya, Mercedes-Benz EQS or BMW i7.
Both the D9 and Z9 offer all-electric powertrains. The Z9’s electric powertrain has a tri-motor setup with 1140 bhp and 1210 Nm of torque, with a 122 kWh battery and an 820 km range (CLTC cycle). The D9 has a range of up to 600 km (NEDC cycle) from its 115 kWh battery, and produces 369 bhp with 470 Nm of torque in all-wheel drive variant.
