As a surprise at the X1 Long Wheelbase (LWB) launch, BMW showcased the i5 LWB that will launch in India soon. While the launch date hasn’t been revealed, BMW did confirm that it will be launched in the coming weeks.
The i5 will become the first electric sedan that BMW will assemble in the country, and the second all-electric model after the iX1 LWB. Given that it is going to be locally assembled, the i5 could be much more affordable compared to the existing i5 in India.
Compared to the standard i5, the i5 LWB is 115 mm longer and its wheelbase is 110 mm longer. That space is mostly utilised in the back seat, making it a more spacious cabin and similar to the 5 Series LWB that’s sold in the country.
Not a lot is known about the car but it will feature the same tech as the 5 Series LWB. Finer details about the features will be revealed closer to the launch.
BMW has also announced that the i5 LWB will get a large 81.6 kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 669 km on a full charge. It will also produce 264 bhp and be capable of doing 0-100 kph in 6.7 seconds.
