Keeway has entered India’s premium electric scooter space with the launch of the Hypevolt-R at an introductory price of Rs 1.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The brand’s first electric offering in the country is positioned as a performance-focused scooter and will be retailed through Moto Vault dealerships, with bookings already open for a token amount of Rs 5,000.

The Hypevolt-R certainly stands apart visually. Unlike a conventional step-through scooter, it features a central spine running through the middle, giving it a more motorcycle-like stance. It is available in Crystal White and Platinum Grey and comes equipped with a full-LED lighting package, TFT display, keyless operation and a tyre-pressure monitoring system. The headline feature, however, is its Advanced Rider Assistance System (ARAS), which incorporates blind-spot detection, lane-change assist and a rear-view camera — features rarely seen in the two-wheeler segment.

Power comes from a mid-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 12 kW (16 bhp) of peak power and 7.02 kgm of torque. Keeway claims a 0-40 kph sprint in just 2.3 seconds and a top speed of 115 kph. Three riding modes — Eco, Normal and Sport — are offered.

The scooter is powered by two removable battery packs with a combined capacity of around 5 kWh, delivering a claimed IDC-certified range of 180 km. The batteries can be charged on or off the scooter, while onboard charging is claimed to replenish them from 0-80 per cent in approximately three hours.

With its combination of strong claimed performance, premium equipment and segment-first safety technology, the Hypevolt-R takes the fight to electric scooters such as the TVS X while carving out a niche of its own in India’s growing premium EV market.
