Toyota Kirloskar Motor has enhanced the safety credentials of its Urban Cruiser Taisor subcompact SUV by making six airbags standard across all variants. This important safety upgrade comes just three weeks after its platform-sharing sibling, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, received similar treatment.
The automaker has simultaneously introduced a stylish new Bluish Black color option for the Taisor, which was previously only available on the Fronx model. While Toyota has confirmed the addition of this new color.
With this update, all Taisor variants now benefit from comprehensive airbag protection, whereas previously only the turbo-petrol G and V trims came equipped with six airbags. The remaining E, S and S+ variants were limited to just two airbags before this upgrade. This move significantly improves the Taisor’s potential performance in crash tests conducted by safety organizations like Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP, both of which prioritize vehicles with robust safety equipment. It’s worth noting that neither agency has tested the Taisor or its Fronx cousin yet, though the Fronx has earned a respectable 4-star rating from Japan NCAP.
Beyond the airbag upgrade, the Taisor continues to offer a comprehensive suite of safety features including electronic stability control, hill hold assist, rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, seat belt reminders for all occupants, and ISOFIX child seat anchors. These features combine to provide drivers and passengers with multiple layers of protection.
Under the hood, the Taisor maintains its familiar powertrain options. Buyers can choose between a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 87 bhp and 11.52 kgm of torque, or a more potent 1.0-liter turbo-petrol unit delivering 98 bhp and 15.09 kgm. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual for both engines, with the NA petrol getting a 5-speed AMT option while the turbo variant offers a 6-speed automatic.
In the competitive sub-4 meter SUV segment, the upgraded Taisor now faces off against rivals including its platform-mate Maruti Fronx, the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Punch, Mahindra 3XO, and Renault Kiger. This safety-focused update strengthens Toyota’s value proposition in a market that’s becoming increasingly conscious of vehicle safety standards. Importantly, Toyota has maintained the Taisor’s existing price points despite these significant upgrades to its safety equipment and color options.
