The resurrection of the Yezdi brand had been something that I had earnestly been looking forward to when I heard whispers of the news in the air. When I first rode one of the new Yezdi motorcycles back in 2022, it was clear that, while the heart was in the right place, it did have a few teething issues in terms of overall quality and consistency. A few years on, Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles has launched the newly updated 2024 Yezdi Adventure, that too, with an updated price tag of Rs 2.10 lakh, which is 6,000 rupees more affordable than its predecessor. The folks from Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles had invited us over to test the new motorcycle at Pro-Dirt Adventure, so I promptly packed up my off-road gear and set out to the location.

Upon our arrival, it seemed that the rain had arrived much before us and had just taken a breather before letting loose another downpour. A few others appeared pretty miffed with the weather conditions, but I thought to myself that this was the perfect weather for an ‘Adventure’ (pun intended). Upon first glance, it was evident that the bulk of the updates was actually the cutting down of the unnecessary bulk that the predecessor had been lugging around since its launch. That could be seen in the new tank cage, which was now more compact, and most importantly, complimented the beautifully shaped tank. The fit and finish of the motorcycle also looks much better this time around, not to mention the new colours were looking good, too.

We were quickly briefed about the updates and improvements on the current iteration, and, just as quickly packed up and sent to hit the trails. But before we get to how it rides, here is the lowdown on what has changed internally. Firstly, it gets a new exhaust routing that goes from under the engine, while maintaining a 220-mm ground clearance without moving the engine. Secondly, the engine has been retuned for better acceleration and a smoother ride experience. Going into more detail, the motorcycle now gets individual gear-based mapping, which, according to the manufacturer, more efficiently manages the engine performance to give power on-demand without straining the engine. This has also enabled them to drop the idling RPM from 1,800 RPM to 1,300 RPM. I’ll get to my thoughts on this in a little while.

As we rode on through the slushy trails, the handling of the motorcycle felt the same as its predecessor, and that is a good thing because the Adventure has always been a well-handling machine. The motorcycle’s ergonomics also remained the same, and while this felt fine for me, I heard quite a lot of the taller riders complaining about how cramped it felt. The suspension setup also felt pretty good, sitting at a sweet spot between plush and firm, which was pretty apt for the Adventure. I had a good deal of fun in off-road mode, sliding around and kicking up some mud to get a feel of how smooth the throttle response felt with the updated gear-based mapping.

On the whole, it feels much better in terms of smoothness on the go, but a lot of us noticed that the bike had a tendency to stall when we came to a standstill. This was slightly odd, considering the changes made to ensure efficient fuel delivery for peak engine performance in every individual gear, but still having to face minute issues such as this. The overall refinement level sure has gone up considerably, and there are less noticeable vibrations that can be felt on the motorcycle. One change that really worked out well though is the centrally routed exhaust. This resolved the issue riders had with uneven heat expulsion to the right side of the engine.

The ABS calibration in both road as well as rain modes has also been fine-tuned, resulting in a much more confident stoppage, regardless of the surface. The instrument cluster, though, feels slightly dated. By now, I would have at least expected a top-end variant with a fully digital TFT cluster option to be available. The Yezdi Adventure does have an ace up its sleeve though, being one of the few adventure motorcycles within the 350cc segment, and with this pricing, is a pretty good contender.
