Got a Steve McQueen poster on your bedroom wall? Well you can finally live out your dreams with the latest in Triumph India’s line-up. The all-new Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC is finally here, and unlike most of today’s motorcycles that bear the Scrambler moniker, this one can actually walk the talk. It isn’t merely a cosmetic throwback to the 1950s, and Triumph is actually racing one in international rallies.
So what do you get?
A 1200 cc engine churning out 89 bhp and 11.2 kgm propels the dual-purpose bike into the wilderness and beyond. It also gets a 21-inch front wheel, dual-purpose tyres, a lot of ground clearance and a high exhaust.
It has a dedicated new Scrambler chassis tailored for off-road capability, and is also loaded with a fully adjustable Ohlins rear suspension unit with 200 mm of travel. To top it all are a host of technological features, from the rider modes, traction control and ABS to the world’s first motorcycle-integrated GoPro system, a turn-by-turn navigation system and Bluetooth connectivity for your smartphone. All of this put together makes for one seriously capable motorcycle.
Triumph has priced it at Rs 10.73 lakh (ex-showroom) which is marginally more expensive than the only real competitor, the Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled, but offers a lot more bike for your money. We spent two days riding it in horrendous conditions, so watch out for that review.
That being said, this isn’t the most capable Scrambler from Triumph, and we don’t know if the British marque will bring the Scrambler 1200 XE down to our country. That is taller and a little more hardcore in its performance, but might just be too intimidating for the average Indian rider. Until then, this should satisfy your Baja 1000 dreams…
