Alister Yoong shone brightly in the Indian Racing League (IRL), taking a commanding victory for Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers in Round 1 at the Madras International Circuit. The 21-year-old Malaysian driver, son of former Formula 1 racer Alex Yoong, led from start to finish, showcasing his skill and experience.
Starting from pole position, Yoong held off an early challenge from Hyderabad Blackbirds’ Akhil Rabindra, who ultimately secured second place after a strong drive. The Czech Republic’s Gabriela Jilkova, racing for Goa Aces JA Racing, completed the podium with a third-place finish.
The race, was a closely contested affair, with positions at the front largely stable throughout the race. However, the competition among the Indian drivers was exciting! Jaden Rahaman Pariat, fresh from his Race 1 victory the previous day, finished fourth, followed by Divy Nandan and Abhay Mohan in fifth and sixth.
Over at the Formula 4 Indian championship, Hugh Barter pulled off a stunning victory in the second race starting from last place and finishing first. The Australian-Japanese driver showed clinical skill, bouncing back from a disappointing first race where a broken rear wing forced him to stop just before the finish.
In Race 2, starting from the back due to his previous result, Barter wasted no time overtaking his competitors. Within 15 minutes, he passed all 14 cars ahead of him, eventually crossing the line with an 18-second lead, one of the largest winning margins in the history of the F4IC.
