The global environmental NGO, CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project), has recognized Nissan’s efforts in the categories of water security and climate change. Nissan’s efforts in both categories have earned it a place on CDP’s A-list; for five consecutive years in the water security category, and for eleven consecutive years in the climate change category.
The causes and campaigns that Nissan has conducted for the A-list spot are as follows:
- The Global-Environmental Management Committee and regional committees’ comprehensive management of climate change and water security challenges, including actions to address potential risks.
- The executive compensation system, which is based on a climate change index.
- Promotion of the 2050 carbon neutrality goal set for operations and the lifecycle of Nissan products.
- The launching of EV36Zero — the world’s first EV manufacturing ecosystem — at Nissan’s plant in Sunderland, UK.
- The CO2 reduction target, which is aligned with the science-based target initiative.
- Water risk assessment at production sites worldwide.
- Reduction of water usage through recycling of wastewater and effective use of rainwater at sites with a high risk of water shortages.
- Drainage water management standards that exceed regulations and secure water quality control.
What is the CDP’s A-list category though? Well, The CDP A-list is for those organizations and companies that have gone above and beyond awareness and management on environmental transparency and action. These organizations are the ones that are awarded with a spot in CDP’s A-list category. To be included on the A List, a company has to receive an “A” score in one of the three focus areas of CDP reporting; water security, forests, and climate change.
