To be fair, this isn’t very big news. But, the fact that our market does not have a Subaru presence, is disappointing, to say the least. For 2021, Subaru America has updated the pricing for the WRX and WRX STI, which is slightly higher than before. The one slight change? The higher trims on the 2021 models get a proximity key with push-button start.
But, as the cliche goes – if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The 2020 model of the WRX and WRX STI had been on sale in the US for almost seven years. And like that model, the ‘new’ WRX comes with a six-speed manual gearbox and an automatic, but who cares?
The STI, which is the hotter one, comes with a 2.5-litre, flat-four, turbocharged petrol engine which churns out 306-bhp and 40.09-kgm of torque. That motor comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission and power is sent to all four wheels thanks to Subaru’s full-time all-wheel-drive system.
Also, that rear wing? No extra cost. Talk about being bred for rallying, and showing off. But the bitter question still remains, will we ever have one here? Most probably not.
