There’s no need to reinstate that the S-Class has one big objective, and that’s rear seat comfort. But even then, just so you know, you don’t feel shortchanged after spending a little over a crore INR, Mercedes Benz has decided to make the S-Class even more special.
Available in both S 400 and S 350 d variants, the S-Class Connoisseur’s Edition helps Merc, in their words, “reiterate its brand promise of ‘best or nothing’”. The major changes/updates include Night Vision Assist Plus (which as the name suggests makes night driving safer, with pedestrian detection, etc.), Executive seats at the rear (which boast the ability to be reclined to up to 43.5 degrees; also available are extending thigh support and footrest), and Air Balance (which not just improves the air quality inside the cabin, but also keeps it fresh).
Engine choices include a 328-bhp/V6-petrol and a 255-bhp/V6-diesel. Both come with sub-seven seconds 0-100 kph times (6.1s for petrol; 6.8 for the diesel), and a top-speed of 250 kph. Safety features include the usual ABS, TC, ESP, Adaptive Brake, Merc’s very own Pre-Safe, eight airbags, and even a cushion that restricts submarining for the rear passenger, if the seat’s fully reclined.
Depending on the variant, the Burmeister music system can be specced with up to 24 speakers, and a total output of 1520 watts. And while listening to heavy metal might not be your thing on your way back from long meeting, the hot stone message can prove to be soothing. And will effectively make you momentarily forget that your subordinates don’t work as hard as they must…
Locally manufactured in India, the S-Class Connoisseur’s Edition is available at Rs 1.21 crore for the S 350 d (diesel) and Rs 1.32 crore for the S 400 (petrol).
