Mercedes-Benz India has launched what they term the ‘S Class of SUVs’, the GLS. It is a facelift of the outgoing GL – Class model, with the new nomenclature that has been making its way across the range.
The first (and only) variant that the GLS will be available in is the 350d, which is powered by a twin-turbo V6 diesel engine that also powers the GLE in an identical state of tune, at 258 bhp and 63.2 kgm. It feeds the power to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic gearbox, the 9G-Tronic. It also rides on air dampers and offers different modes for a varied set of conditions. The features list has also been updated – the most notable addition is the inclusion of Apple CarPlay. There’s also a central touch pad, a panoramic sunroof, and all upholstery is Nappa leather. The headlamps are now all-LED units with intelligent high-beam assist, as befits the segment.
The GLS Class retails at a price of Rs 80.38 lakh, ex-showroom, Pune, which is good value for money, considering that it is one of the few with a truly usable third row of seats.
