When the Maruti Suzuki Ignis was launched, the company had decided to offer only manual transmission on the top-spec trims (Alpha). But given the increased demand for AMT-equipped versions, the company has decided to let customers enjoy the same in the Alpha trim as well. And that is in line with the MSIL’s recent decision of bringing out a new fully loaded variant of the Baleno AT. With said moves, it targets doubling the sales of AT-/AMT-equipped vehicles by 2020.
The automated manual transmission (or AGS in Suzuki-speak) is available on both petrol (1.2-litre; 82 bhp and 11.53 kgm) and diesel (1.3-litre; 74 bhp and 19.38 kgm) variants, priced at Rs 7.01 lakh and Rs 8.08 respectively — for the new Alpha trim.
Maruti also offers a range of accessories, if you want your Ignis to stand out. In the factory-spec, the car comes with ABS and two airbags, ISOFIX child-seat mounting points, an Apple-CarPlay-ready infotainment system, climate control, alloy wheels, etc. Some of the latter features are trim-level-dependent, but if you’re looking at the Alpha trim, then you’re bound to get all of these.
MSIL’s Senior Executive Director, R S Kalsi said, “Our premium urban compact vehicle IGNIS has been created for millennials, a none of a kind brand in the Indian market. Automatic Gear Shift (AGS) on the IGNIS, so far offered in the Delta and Zeta trims, has been widely appreciated by customers and accounts for 27% of IGNIS sales. We are now offering AGS in the top trim as well – IGNIS Alpha. We expect this to strengthen brand IGNIS and enhance the popularity of AGS amongst millennials.”
