The Eletre is built on Lotus’ Electric Premium Architecture, which uses a new 800-volt skateboard-style platform to give the SUV a low centre of gravity and sporty handling. The pressure is immense as the Eletre will want to live up to Lotus’s rich sporting history.
It has a battery capacity of slightly over 100 kWh (the exact figure isn’t revealed yet), which is paired with a pair of electric motors capable of producing a minimum of 592 bhp even in base trim. In the future, Lotus plans to launch a variety of higher-performance Eletres that will go from 0 to 100 kph in less than 3 seconds. Also, Lotus is aiming for a single-charge range of 600 km; and with the help of 350 kW rapid charging, it’ll add 399 km of range in just 20 minutes.
The Eletre’s aerodynamic appearance is inspired by the Lotus Evija, with significant aspects like the rear tunnel. The high-performance SUV will ride on adaptive air suspension, which the driver may tune alongside the steering, powertrain, and throttle response using the vehicle’s various driving modes: Range, Tour, Sport, Off-road and Individual.
To save weight, the Eletre incorporates a lot of carbon fibre and aluminium. To further minimise the overall weight, a three-in-one electric motor system has been created, which combines the motor, controller, and reducer into a single package. By 2023, this electric hyper-SUV will be on the road, and we hope to see one in India, too. It’s safe to assume that the Eletre will start a new era for the British sportscar manufacturer.
