Kia India has taken a bold step into the electric vehicle market with the launch of the Carens Clavis EV, the company’s first locally manufactured electric vehicle in India. With an attractive starting price of ₹17.99 lakh (ex-showroom), this electric recreational vehicle combines Kia’s signature styling with advanced EV technology specifically developed for Indian road conditions.
The Clavis EV comes with two battery options to suit different needs. The 42kWh version offers an ARAI-certified range of 404km, while the larger 51.4kWh variant pushes the boundaries with up to 490km (MIDC) on a single charge. Both configurations support ultra-fast 100kW DC charging that can replenish the battery from 10% to 80% in just 39 minutes, and feature sophisticated liquid-cooled thermal management systems for optimal performance in India’s varied climate.
Performance-wise, the top-spec model delivers 126kW (170 bhp) of power and 26.22 kgm of torque, enabling impressive acceleration from 0-100 kph in just 8.4 seconds. The vehicle also incorporates practical Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, allowing owners to power external devices and appliances directly from the car’s battery.
the Clavis EV interiors are a fresh new take on the in-car experience with a massive 26.62-inch panoramic display that seamlessly integrates the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system. The premium cabin offers numerous comfort features including a Bose 8-speaker audio system, 64-color customizable ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof. The innovative “Boss Mode” provides extra legroom for rear passengers, while thoughtful touches like wireless charging and seat-mounted air purifiers with AQI displays enhance everyday usability.
Safety has been given paramount importance, with the Clavis EV boasting Level 2 ADAS that includes over 20 autonomous safety features such as Smart Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, and Front Collision-Avoidance Assist. The comprehensive safety package also includes a 360-degree camera system, six airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
