To be launched on August 23, the Hyundai Elantra has reached the company’s website already in the form of teaser images and videos. When launched it will be the most premium Hyundai saloon on the market in India, sitting atop the Verna.
Not just boasting an all-new design, the new Elantra is likely to get a range of new engines as well. The diesel’s likely to be the current 1.6-litre unit while a 2-litre petrol is likely to be introduced as well. Like the current car both manual and automatic gearbox choices will be present, but the new 7-speed, dual-clutch automatic unit is unlikely to come.
The car also gets an Apple CarPlay/Android Auto-ready infotainment unit in markets abroad, so expect Hyundai India to include that as well. Only the topmost trim gets disc brakes on all four wheels in the US, but features — already present in others in the segment — like cruise control, LED DRLs and tail-lamps, etc., will not be skipped. Final specifications and features list will be available closer to the launch.
The car wasn’t present at the 2016 Auto Expo but comes before the Tucson SUV. Since the car will be competing against well-established rivals, expect similar pricing as the outgoing model, which was listed at Rs 15.08 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) onwards.
