The Fiat Avventura looked and drove well but the articulated tailgate-mounted spare wheel was its Achilles Heel. To address that, the Avventura Urban Cross gets the spare wheel in the right place, has the same crossover looks, and is now available for order at a rather tempting price.
It will be available in three trim levels, namely Active, Dynamic, and Emotion. The first two are powered by a 1.3-litre Multijet diesel (that makes 93 PS) while the Emotion variant comes only with the 1.4-litre ’T-jet’ turbocharged petrol unit (that makes 140 PS and is also found in the Avventura Powered by Abarth and the hugely likeable Fiat Abarth Punto).
But where Fiat India has excelled this time is the feature list — finally showing that they’ve learnt what the Indian customer is looking for. 16-inch alloys are standard irrespective of the trim level you choose (although the Abarth-ised version gets the ‘Scorpion’ design), and so are the rear spoiler and the 5-inch touchscreen navigation system. Those looking to further customise their Urban Cross will also be able to choose Burgundy interior scheme as an option on the Dynamic and the Emotion trims.
Apart from losing the externally mounted spare wheel, there’s a new grille up front, and thus the overall design looks cleaner and more soothing to the eye. And more importantly, it’s slightly less expensive — BY ABOUT A LAKH — than the Avventura, with prices starting from Rs 6.85 lakh onwards for the base (Active) diesel. The Dynamic variant is priced at Rs 7.45 lakh, and the Emotion at Rs 9.85 lakh. (All prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi)
That certainly makes it the most affordable of the Abarth versions out there. Deliveries will begin on October 1, 2016. Keep the cash ready…
